Another important benefit that Helderberg Camper Hire offers is our Comprehensive Insurance Package through Zurich Insurance Co, which offers not only Collision Damage Waiver (CDW), but also Theft and Third Party cover - essential in our modern world.
Helderberg Camper Hire takes it's name from the beautiful Helderberg mountains overlooking Somerset West and the Helderberg Basin. Situated in the picturesque Boland, the wine-growing centre of South Africa, Somerset West is just 20 minutes from Cape Town International Airport.

Information disclaimer
The rates on this website are often heavily discounted. This is due to our negotiated rates and bulk buying power. On very rare occasions, a rate may be displayed incorrectly due to our, or a vehicle supplier's error. In such a case, if you book with us at a quoted rate that is incorrect, we will notify you of any price change and give you the option to proceed or cancel. We make every effort to keep information on our site up to date, but we cannot guarantee this website is free of errors or omissions and retain the right to update or change the information published at any time.
Liability
To the extent permitted by law we/the owners of this website will not be liable to you or to any third party (whether in contract, tort, or otherwise) for any direct, indirect or consequential loss or damage (including but not limited to any accident, injury, delay or loss of enjoyment) arising out of your reliance upon information contained on this website, including but not limited to your use (or inability to use) any products or services described or procured through this website.
When you pick up your vehicle, you will be required to sign a rental agreement with the supplier of the vehicle. Your rental and use of the vehicle will be governed by the terms of the rental agreement and any other documentation or information provided to you by the supplier at the time you pick up your vehicle. The rental agreement is between you and the supplier and we will not be liable to you or to any third party in relation to the terms of the supplier’s rental agreement or any other documentation provided to you by the supplier at the time of pick up.
While we will make reasonable efforts to ensure we are representing only reputable suppliers, we make no warranty about the fitness or suitability of any third party (supplier) product or service and will not accept responsibility for the quality or fitness of any vehicle. We welcome feedback from our customers on their experience with our suppliers. We may, at our discretion, provide you with reasonable assistance in resolving any dispute you may have with a supplier.
Our total liability to you in relation to your use of this website and the information contained on this website will not exceed the dollar amount of the deposit we have received from you in relation to your booking/rental. Your use of this website is governed by the laws of New Zealand and the jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.
Booking information
To make a booking you must complete our booking form which is easy to follow and secured with the latest encryption technology. Once we receive your form, we will, subject to availability, confirm your booking by emailing you a confirmation voucher and invoice. The deposit required to secure your vehicle (as shown on the secure booking page) will only be processed on your credit card when your booking is confirmed. Please note that a 1.75% credit card charge will be added when your payment is processed.
A booking is confirmed when you have been emailed a confirmation voucher and at this stage the deposit is processed on your card and becomes non-refundable and any cancellation fees stated in the supplier's terms apply. Upon receipt of your confirmation, please check your details carefully and notify us immediately if there are any incorrect details, as it may not be possible to make changes at a later date.
If you are booking via phone, please make sure you have read the terms and conditions of the vehicle you wish to rent first. Our reservations consultant will ask you if you have read the terms and agree to them before proceeding. The onus is always on the renter to ensure they make themselves fully aware of the terms displayed on our website.
Information disclosure
In booking on this website you acknowledge that we disclose your information to your selected Supplier in order to provide the requested rental services.
Amendments
Please note that some suppliers treat an amendment as a new booking and apply the rate current at the time the amendment is made to recalculate the entire booking amount (not just the days changed). If the rental period is increased, an additional deposit may be required. If the rental period is shortened which results in a reduction of the rental charges, the deposit amount will remain unchanged, and the difference between the original and revised deposit is forfeited (it cannot be used towards remaining rental charges). To request a change to a confirmed booking, please use the alterations request link on your confirmation. Any alterations are subject to availability and the approval of the supplier. In addition to the alteration policy of the supplier stated in their terms, the following charges will apply:
Car rental alterations (all charges stated in local currency):
To change dates or times that result in a recalculation of rental rates, or to change vehicles or locations: 25.00
To add or remove extras to/from a confirmed booking: 10.00
Motorhome rental alterations (all charges stated in local currency):
To change dates or times that result in a recalculation of rental rates, or to change vehicles or locations: 75.00
To add or remove extras to/from confirmed booking: 20.00
The alteration fee will not be charged if your alteration request is not possible.
Vehicle Capacity and fitness to drive
Under no circumstances are you permitted to carry more passengers than the vehicle you rent is legally registered to carry, and if you do your insurance may be invalidated. The number of seatbelts (and passengers) is indicated next to each vehicle on this website. Luggage capacity where shown is an indication only and we will not be responsible should you be unable to fit your entire luggage into a vehicle. It is your responsibility to choose a journey that is within your capabilities. A vehicle supplier can refuse to rent a vehicle to any person who is in their opinion unfit to drive or does not meet eligibility requirements. In such circumstances we will have no further liability to you.

Tyre damage is excluded on all insurance options – excluding factory faults or fair wear and tear.
Insurance Exclusions
The hirer shall be responsible for the full amount of damage or replacement costs if:
• vehicle is abused in any way, such as incorrect use of the clutch, brakes or gearbox
• the driver is found to have been reckless, negligent or driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs
• the hirer permits unlisted, underage or unlicenced driving of the vehicle
• underbody or overhead damage is caused by water or seawater immersion, sitting on roof or bonnet
• the vehicle is taken into unauthorised areas or onto restricted roads
• theft occurs as a result of keys being left in the vehicle
• rental agreement is violated or details are found to have been misrepresented
• any damage is deemed to have been caused wilfully by hirer or a person/s in his party
PLEASE NOTE:
Note 1: “OFF-ROAD”. Some insurance co-payment options do not cover “Off-Road” damage or overhead and/or under-body and/or water damage or any damage sustained due to negligence of the hirer or his/her designated driver in a collision with a fixed stationary object or tyre damage. Hirer will therefore be responsible for up to R20 000 if this type of damage is found on return of the vehicle.
Note 2: CO-PAYMENTS - The co-payments can be paid in cash, travellers cheques or credit card (a manual imprint of the credit card will be taken and the amount will have to be authorised by the issuer of the card). This is fully refundable on return of the vehicle with no damage incurred to the relevant vehicle. Not all vehicles on the roads in Southern Africa are insured and it is not compulsory to be insured against damage to 3rd. party property. It is therefore often almost impossible to recover money from the drivers of other vehicles whether they are the guilty party or not. The co-payment, as and when applicable, is payable, regardless of who is at fault unless recovered by our insurers. The co-payment amount as per the option taken by the hirer, is payable immediately upon return of the vehicle to Helderberg Camper Hire or, at Helderberg Camper Hire’s sole discretion, on demand from the hirer after an assessment has been done by the necessary repairers and a quotation obtained. If payment is to be delayed, the necessary authorization form is to be signed by the hirer on return of the vehicle. Any adjustment by our insurers will be returned to the hirer at the earliest convenience of Helderberg Camper Hire CC.
Note 3: DRIVING: Campers / Motorhomes are built on a Commercial vehicle chassis and must be driven as such.
Most accidents occur as a result of:
a. driving too fast,
b. driving when tired
c. driving at night.
Please consider the weather conditions and the condition and width of the roads you drive on. Animals and pedestrians crossing roads in Africa are a serious hazard, especially after dark .
ACCIDENTS & INCIDENTAL DAMAGE:
In the event of an accident the following conditions apply:
a. Hirer is entirely responsible for all costs of repairs and/or replacement as per the co-payment chosen.
b. Hirer is responsible for the return of the damaged vehicle to the original collection depot.
c. If hirer requires a replacement vehicle to be delivered a drop-off charge will be made.
d. No refund for rental days lost will be allowed for the period during which the vehicle is being replaced.
e. If hirer is unwilling or unable to accept or Helderberg Camper Hire is unwilling or unable to provide a replacement vehicle no refund for early termination of the contract will apply.
All accidents, no matter how minor, must be reported to the nearest police station within 24 hours and police case reference numbers communicated immediately to Helderberg Camper Hire CC. Hirers may be required to complete a detailed insurance claim form at the end of the hire period. In the event of an accident the hirer is still entirely responsible for the full rental fee together with the payment of the relevant vehicle co-payment.
If the vehicle is involved in an accident a replacement vehicle, if available, will be arranged at the sole discretion of Helderberg Camper Hire CC. Insurance does not cover damage to the interior of the vehicle or loss or breakage of equipment unless as a result of an accident. All equipment and accessories supplied shall be returned (fair wear and tear excluded) upon completion of the hire.
Damage, as a result of negligence to the suspension or any undercarriage fittings and / or exhaust system other than fair wear and tear will also be for the hirers account.
Roof vents of the Campers are in good working order. Please be aware of these when driving or parking under restricted overhead clearance. If damaged in any way, the replacement costs are R 2 350 per vent, and will be for the hirer's account as it is not covered by insurance. When reversing the camper, it is essential to have a person outside directing the driver.
Water leakage in heavy rain is an unavoidable problem in campers.
We reserve the right to charge the hirer for any incidental damage found on the vehicle and not notified to us on return of the vehicle.
Personal property Insurance for all persons accompanying the hirer is the responsibility of the hirer.
Personal injury to the hirer or anyone accompanying the hirer or anyone travelling in the vehicle who is deemed by their presence in the vehicle to have the permission of the hirer is not covered by the vehicle insurance and we strongly recommend that you take out Personal Travel Insurance. The hirer shall have no claim of any nature against Helderberg Camper Hire CC, it’s members or the owner of the vehicle, for any injury, loss or damage suffered or sustained by the hirer, or anyone accompanying the hirer, arising from any cause, including, without limitations, the use of the camper and provisions thereof. |
