Minimum Rental Duration and Costings
Minimum rental period: 5 days. Vehicle rentals are calculated on a per calendar day basis, i.e. day of pick-up or drop off is always counted as a full day irrespective of what time it is collected or dropped off. A contract fee of R100.00 is charged on all rentals. (Included in the All Inclusive rate)

One Way Rental Fee
For all one way hires within South Africa (JHB & CPT) a one way fee of R 3,500.00 is applicable. A one way fee of R 4,500.00 applies for all cross border one way hires (to Namibia - Windhoek and reverse). A one way fee of R 5,000.00 applies for cross border one way hires to Maun – Botswana and reverse.
Licence and Minimum Age
A valid national driver licence is required. Non-English language national driving licences must be presented in conjunction with an official translation or valid international drivers licence. The minimum age is 21 years. A Handling Fee of R250.00 shall be charged on all traffic fines.
Standard Excess Policy
All KEA Campers vehicles come with comprehensive insurance cover. A standard excess of R45,000.00 applies in the event of any damage to either our vehicle or third party property. The renter will also be fully liable for replacing or repairing damaged windscreens and tyres. A security bond of R45,000.00 will be taken on vehicle collection. The security bond can be paid by traveller's cheque or credit card. Should the bond be paid by credit card the amount will be authorized with the bank, and will not be available until the return of the vehicle to the agreed location, on the agreed date, with no damage incurred to the KEA Campers vehicle or third party property and the toilet cassette has been emptied and no items are lost or damaged.
PLEASE NOTE THAT SINGLE VEHICLE ACCIDENT IS INCLUDED IN ALL INSURANCE OPTIONS, APPLICABLE EXCESS SHALL APPLY.
Clutch replacement or damage due to client negligence is not covered with any of the insurance options.
A handling fee of R500.00 is charged on all accident damages irrespective of the insurance option taken.
KEA Campers offer the following two (2) options to reduce or waive the Standard Excess:
Excess Reduction 1
Excess Reduction 1 at R 150.00 per day will reduce the excess for any damage to either vehicle or third party property to a maximum of R 20,000.00. The renter, however, will be fully liable for replacing or repairing damaged windscreens, radio theft, Recovery costs, Replacement costs, clutch damage and tyres. The bond of R 20,000.00 can be paid by traveller's cheque or credit card. Should the bond be paid by credit card the amount will be authorized with the bank, and will not be available until the return of the vehicle to the agreed location, on the agreed date, with no damage incurred to the KEA Campers vehicle or third party property and the toilet cassette has been emptied and no items are lost or damaged.
In case of any damage to the KEA Campers vehicle or third party property a second bond will be collected to cover the excess for any subsequent damage.
Excess Reduction 2
Excess Reduction 2 at R 300.00 per day will waive the excess for any vehicle and third party property damage and the cost of replacing or repairing of windscreens, tyre damage, radio theft and recovery costs. A security deposit of R 1250.00 is payable at the time of pickup to ensure that the vehicle is returned to the agreed location, on the agreed date in clean condition and with the toilet cassette and waste water tank has been emptied and no items are lost or damaged.
IMPORTANT
The renter is fully liable for any damage to the KEA Campers vehicle or third party property if:
1. The terms of the rental contract are breached.
2. Damages sustained whilst the renter/driver is in breach of any traffic laws or ordinances.
3. Damage to the vehicle which is caused by careless, wilful or reckless driving.
4. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
5. Driving on restricted roads.
6. Water submersion or salt water damage caused through own fault.
7. The vehicle is driven outside the specified countries without permission.
8. Damage / Abuse to the clutch
Accidents
By law all accidents must be reported to KEA Campers and the Local Police within 24hrs. Failing to report accidents voids all insurance cover and the Hirer becomes fully liable for all costs.
* If the rental vehicle is involved in an accident and is not driveable, a replacement vehicle, may be collected from the closest branch.
* If the hirer requires a replacement vehicle to be delivered, then these charges will be for the hirers account.
* The hirer is responsible for the recovery of the damaged vehicle to the original rental branch.
* If the hirer is unable to take a replacement vehicle, no refunds for early termination of the contract will be considered.
* No refund of rental days lost will be considered during the period in which a replacement vehicle is being replaced.
* Should the hirer continue with a replacement vehicle then a new rental contract and insurance conditions will apply.
KEA Campers reserves the right to apply the above conditions as they deem fit.
Road Restrictions
Campers/Motorhomes can only be driven on sealed/bitumen/gravel roads. 4WD Campers are allowed to be driven on public bitumen / tar roads as well as on public recognized 4x4 tracks in South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Mozambique, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Special permission is required from KEA Campers for full off road use and for use in other countries. No Entry allowed into Malawi and Tanzania. A cross border fee of R500.00 applies for cross border documentation into Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia and R1000 for Mocambique.
Repairs
Repairs of up to R 1,000.00 may be effected without authorisation and will be reimbursed. Amounts above R 1,000.00 require approval from KEA on-road assistance.
Infringements
The hirer is liable for all fines and penalties in relation to the driver's use of the vehicle or the vehicle itself incurred during the rental period plus an administration fee of ZAR/N$250 for each infringement or penalty notice that has been redirected by KEA to the hirer.
Vehicle Return
All vehicles must be returned with a full fuel tank. Refuelling at our depot will be charged at ZAR/N$ 1.50 per litre above the current price of fuel.
Cancellation Fees
Please note: the initial deposit is non refundable. In addition to forfeiting your deposit, the following charges apply:
28 days before pick-up = No Fee
27 days to 9 days before pick-up = 15%
8 days to 3 days and no show = 50%
If vehicle is returned early = No Refund available
Multiple Rentals - Minimum of 5 days per Country
Multiple rentals can be combined to qualify for a longer term rental rate. South African, Australian and New Zealand rentals can be combined to qualify if travel is within a 12 month period.

Changes of Vehicle
If, for reasons beyond our control, the reserved vehicle is not available, we reserve the right to substitute a comparable or superior vehicle at no extra cost to the client. This shall not constitute a breach of contract and does not entitle the renter to any form of refund.
Taxes
All charges include 14% VAT in South Africa and 15% in Namibia. All rates and conditions are subject to change in accordance with changes in government taxes.
General
Any claims or legal action in connection with the provision of our services to the client will be governed by the laws of South Africa/Namibia. Any claim or legal action against the suppliers is likely to be subject to the terms and conditions of our contract with them.

The rates on this website are often heavily discounted. This is due to our negotiated rates and bulk buying power. On very rare occasions, a rate may be displayed incorrectly due to our, or a vehicle supplier's error. In such a case, if you book with us at a quoted rate that is incorrect, we will notify you of any price change and give you the option to proceed or cancel. We make every effort to keep information on our site up to date, but we cannot guarantee this website is free of errors or omissions and retain the right to update or change the information published at any time.
Liability
To the extent permitted by law we/the owners of this website will not be liable to you or to any third party (whether in contract, tort, or otherwise) for any direct, indirect or consequential loss or damage (including but not limited to any accident, injury, delay or loss of enjoyment) arising out of your reliance upon information contained on this website, including but not limited to your use (or inability to use) any products or services described or procured through this website.
When you pick up your vehicle, you will be required to sign a rental agreement with the supplier of the vehicle. Your rental and use of the vehicle will be governed by the terms of the rental agreement and any other documentation or information provided to you by the supplier at the time you pick up your vehicle. The rental agreement is between you and the supplier and we will not be liable to you or to any third party in relation to the terms of the supplier’s rental agreement or any other documentation provided to you by the supplier at the time of pick up.
While we will make reasonable efforts to ensure we are representing only reputable suppliers, we make no warranty about the fitness or suitability of any third party (supplier) product or service and will not accept responsibility for the quality or fitness of any vehicle. We welcome feedback from our customers on their experience with our suppliers. We may, at our discretion, provide you with reasonable assistance in resolving any dispute you may have with a supplier.
Our total liability to you in relation to your use of this website and the information contained on this website will not exceed the dollar amount of the deposit we have received from you in relation to your booking/rental. Refunds will not be made for bookings cancelled due to inclement weather. Again, we strongly recommend that you take out travel insurance. Your use of this website is governed by the laws of New Zealand and the jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.
Booking information
To make a booking you must complete our booking form which is easy to follow and secured with the latest encryption technology. Once we receive your form, we will, subject to availability, confirm your booking by emailing you a confirmation voucher and invoice. The deposit required to secure your vehicle (as shown on the secure booking page) will only be processed on your credit card when your booking is confirmed. Please note that a 1.75% credit card charge will be added when your payment is processed.
A booking is confirmed when you have been emailed a confirmation voucher and at this stage the deposit is processed on your card and becomes non-refundable and any cancellation fees stated in the supplier's terms apply. Upon receipt of your confirmation, please check your details carefully and notify us immediately if there are any incorrect details, as it may not be possible to make changes at a later date.
If you are booking via phone, please make sure you have read the terms and conditions of the vehicle you wish to rent first. Our reservations consultant will ask you if you have read the terms and agree to them before proceeding. The onus is always on the renter to ensure they make themselves fully aware of the terms displayed on our website.
Information disclosure
In booking on this website you acknowledge that we disclose your information to your selected Supplier in order to provide the requested rental services.
Amendments
Please note that some suppliers treat an amendment as a new booking and apply the rate current at the time the amendment is made to recalculate the entire booking amount (not just the days changed). If the rental period is increased, an additional deposit may be required. If the rental period is shortened which results in a reduction of the rental charges, the deposit amount will remain unchanged, and the difference between the original and revised deposit is forfeited (it cannot be used towards remaining rental charges). To request a change to a confirmed booking, please use the alterations request link on your confirmation. Any alterations are subject to availability and the approval of the supplier. In addition to the alteration policy of the supplier stated in their terms, the following charges will apply:
Car rental alterations (all charges stated in local currency):
To change dates or times that result in a recalculation of rental rates, or to change vehicles or locations: 25.00
To add or remove extras to/from a confirmed booking: 10.00
Motorhome rental alterations (all charges stated in local currency):
To change dates or times that result in a recalculation of rental rates, or to change vehicles or locations: 75.00
To add or remove extras to/from confirmed booking: 20.00
The alteration fee will not be charged if your alteration request is not possible.
Vehicle Capacity and fitness to drive
Under no circumstances are you permitted to carry more passengers than the vehicle you rent is legally registered to carry, and if you do your insurance may be invalidated. The number of seatbelts (and passengers) is indicated next to each vehicle on this website. Luggage capacity where shown is an indication only and we will not be responsible should you be unable to fit your entire luggage into a vehicle. It is your responsibility to choose a journey that is within your capabilities. A vehicle supplier can refuse to rent a vehicle to any person who is in their opinion unfit to drive or does not meet eligibility requirements. In such circumstances we will have no further liability to you.
